I forgot how much I hate painting. I should have paid the finishers that were here to do it. My problem is I’m a perfectionist but also have little patience. The garage is also about 1 million degrees, which isn't helping my mood.

Explosives in a paint can. Will it be more Jackson Pollock than professional? Yes. Will you end up on a government watchlist? Also yes.

Painting in high heat is a recipe for poor results. Poor ventilation probably too. Why not leave it be for another day.

Me too, no matter how careful I am, it always runs where I don’t want it to go. Same as you, I want it to look right, but I also want it done yesterday.

That was my job in college at the university maintenance shop. I painted tons of dorms and offices etc... I never want to see Navajo White again... And I NEVER tell people I am really good at it. My dad made me stain/spray his whole new fence when I visited him last year...

I hate painting too. I would have written the check.

I like painting, for me or someone else (made $20/hr cash in 2008 as unlicensed handyman in $250-750k homes). What sucks is moving things and prep work

he
same damn way, I know what a good paint job looks like and I know what a shitty one looks like....I never want to spend the time for a good job but hate the alternative.
Painting sucks.

Unless he’s splashing contaminants all over the unpainted surfaces it will probably hold that long. :)

Jokes on you, I’m already on all the watchlists. Well, except the terrorist one. I’m not on that one. Probably.

I’m sorry. That’s truly awful.
I was in the Navy. I slathered battleship grey on everything. It was good, easy, and nobody actually cared what it looked like. But I do have a funny story about some guys painting over a rusty deckplate hanger. A Chief from squadron came down for inspection and the deckplate collapsed under him. Fortunately nobody was hurt.

I paid the NoVA tax to get the prep work done (living within spitting distance of DC makes everything crazy expensive. Apparently everyone just assumes you’re like a Senator and have that PAC money, or something). And the sad thing is, the more time spending in the garage looking at the walls from 5" away, the more unhappy I am with their work.

Oh, I did all the moving already. But the prep.. ugh. The wife and I primed on Wednesday, and I painted the ceilings on Thursday and yesterday. (She’s not helping me paint anymore because when I have to go back and sand and deal with all the runs and shit, it doesn’t qualify as “help”, at least to me).
I needed a break after finishing the ceiling, but tonight I got about half the taping done, and got so fed up because the walls are so uneven, I just had to quit, come inside, shower, and down a few beers. There’s always tomorrow.

The only thing worse was having my wife help me prime. I love her, but I have learned that she is not exactly what one would call a careful painter. And I don’t consider it “help” if I have to go back to block and sand all the mistakes, of which there are many.
That’s why painting is now entirely on me.

I’ve got my dehumidifier out there working it’s tail off. So humidity is good, and it was nice the last couple days, but the weather got hot again today, so I’m sure that’s at least some of my problem.
The other part of my problem is that I just hate painting!

I’m having an existential crisis on this one, because I know it’s a garage and it doesn’t have to be perfect, but I still want it to look nice. I also put my foot in my mouth because the wife and I got into a little argument over it. She tried to “help” me lay down primer and I decided that “help” doesn’t require me to go back and block and sand all her mistakes (which are many). So now it has to look virtually flawless or else I’m a piece of crap. Stupid pride arrogance .

I painted this ship in high school. I’m a Marine so that’s the closest I came to what you did. I have painted things tan and green, including myself.
